Classic Bait and Switch

I wrote this for The Riggsby Report website, but I wanted to share it with my friends here at Stand Too.com.

President Obama spoke about Health Care Reform tonight. He spoke of a plan that he is presenting. I would like to give the President credit for presenting what appears to be a compromise to pass Health Care Reform. But while it may appear that way, it was actually, a classic Bait and Switch.

I have said before that the biggest problem the President has is that he has been out trying to sell a bill that he hasn’t written and apparently hasn’t read. And from his accusations tonight, where Congressman Joe Wilson correctly stated, “You Lie!”, he has apparently still not read it.

He suggested tonight that he has a plan. That’s great! Might it have not been easier if he had a plan when he started this debacle?

He has a plan, but he still doesn’t have a bill. I want to clarify that statement, because it’s a problem for the American people, but it’s not a problem for him. That’s where the Bait and Switch comes in.

He has a plan proposing all of these nice compromises. That’s the bait. So, where is the switch? Nowhere do these compromises appear in a bill in Congress! He hasn’t submitted one! He can now stand up there and truthfully say that his plan doesn’t do all of the things we are all afraid of. And it may not. But the bills that are being voted on certainly do! Where is the bill Mr. President?

If you doubt that he is doing that, then look at tonight’s example? The President said, “There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false – the reforms I’m proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally. And one more misunderstanding I want to clear up – under our plan, no federal dollars will be used to fund abortions, and federal conscience laws will remain in place.”

There it is, in his own words. “The reforms I’m proposing..” and “under our plan” refer to his plan tonight. Great, but his plan tonight is not what’s being proposed in Congress. The Congressional Research Service confirmed that there is nothing in the House Plan to prevent illegal aliens from receiving government health insurance. Additionally, when Republicans attempted to place restrictions on funding abortion into the bill, it was voted down.

Yet, the President can now say these things and not be lying, because his “plan” does not contain them. So let’s slightly alter the Ronald Reagan campaign slogan. Instead of asking “Where’s the Beef?”, let’s start asking, “Where’s the Bill?.

It will be very important that all Americans who oppose nationalized health care stay on message and not tire of the fight. The far left is hoping that the opposition will lose stream and focus, allowing passage of legislation that will give the Government massive control of our lives and liberty.

This can not be allowed to happen. The RiggsbRoeport is absolutely right, don’t fall for false promises. Don’t allow any legislation to go through. Call your Government represetatives and keep the heat on! Demand that your elected officials represent your voice of opposition. If they fail to do so, take action and vote them out in 2010 and 2012.
